It’s amazing that we’ve been here for almost 5 months and our presence has been significant for local Chinese people. During the past two weeks, Maple Leaf stared hiring new workers and I had been busy in interpreting for Chinese interviewees and contacted over 10 families. Last Sunday, Rev. Francis Tam, the executive secretary of CCACA, came to visit us and shared gospel with 29 Chinese, 22 adults and 7 children in our potluck event. We also found that there are four potential families attending our gatherings continually and tried to follow up them. Please see the photos of the event as below:
For the reparation of VBS this summer, we plan to train those high school students attending English study group as volunteers. There are three more students joining us and we try to build them up as a team. In addition, Sharon will teach 6-8 adults the essential principle of phonics for one week to help them across the language barrier sooner. We also arrange them to have a presentation as well as what students study group do in the next event on April 19th.
We request you for praying for our needs listed below.
1. May God give us chances and wisdom to follow up these four Chinese families continually attending our Sunday events.
2. Sharon volunteers as a TA for Chinese students in one local elementary school every Tuesday. And we both volunteer to interpret for Chinese people at Westman Immigrant Service (WIS) every Monday and Wednesday. In addition, I volunteered as a TA at Youth For Christ (YFC) from this Monday. May God use us as a channel between Chinese immigrants and community as well as them and church.
3. Recently Brandon School Division would like to open three TA positions to whom can speak both Mandarin and English, and Sharon wants to apply for one of them. May God make a way for her application and working permit so that she can help more Chinese students by using her teaching abilities officially in school.
4. The English study group will go on well continually. Sharon will join this group as well because she decided to go to the Faculty of Education in Brandon University this year. May God give her wisdom and confidence to pass TOEFL on May 8th.
5. I failed my first road test due to lack of practice. I need more chances to practice driving with a supervising driver so that I can pass the next one confidently.
6. I will go to three cities, Calgary for Annual Conference of CCACA, Toronto for the course of “Alliance History and Thought”, and Regina for New Workers Retreat, in the coming May. May God give me wisdom and provide me financial support to balance my time and finance.
Thanks for your concerns and intercession! May God's good wills be done through working with us together.
